FAQ

What is the difference between precast reinforcement and normal reinforcement?

Precast reinforcement has to be produced to much tighter tolerances than normal reinforcement. This is because most precast is produced in steel moulds which have very little tolerance for out of position reinforcement without affecting the concrete cover. Also there is usually a tight interface of mating parts and fixings which are required to be precisely located to manage the various connecting points between the precast and in-situ components. Furthermore prestressing strand needs to be fed through the reinforcement cages without interference.

This is managed by careful detailing, precision bending processes and jig table assembled fitment sets.

How sustainable is your reinforcement?

PPR sources reinforcement from some of the world’s greenest sources. All of PPR’s steel sources have lower C02 per tonne that the locally manufactured alternatives inclusive of the CO2 associated with shipping. PPR has access to certified “clean steel” which is produced using 100% renewable energy with sufficient lead time and minimum order quantities.

PPR’s factory is electrically powered and this electricity is 100% offset sourced. Shipping pallets are recycled hardwood and re-used numerous times. All steel scrap is recycled via local recyclers.

EPDs are available for PPR’s steel sources upon request.

Are you ready for digital traceability?

Over the next few years steel certification will go digital. PPR is well prepared for digital traceabililty. The attached article details how this process will work and how it will benefit the end user.
